About Proverbs
Proverbs suits a random draw better than any other book. From chapter 10 onward most verses are complete sayings in two lines that make sense on their own.
The book opens by naming Solomon, the son of David, king of Israel. Later sections name other sources: sayings copied out by the men of King Hezekiah (chapter 25), the words of Agur (chapter 30) and the words of King Lemuel (chapter 31). Chapters 1 to 9 are longer speeches from a father to a son, so a verse drawn from there reads best with the verses around it.
Proverbs has 31 chapters, which is why many people read one chapter a day and finish the book each month. A random proverb is a lighter version of the same habit. A proverb describes how life generally goes. Read it as an observation to weigh, not as a guarantee.

How Proverbs is laid out
| Part | What it covers | Verses | Share of draws |
|---|---|---|---|
| Chapters 1 to 9 | Speeches on wisdom, father to son | 256 | 28% |
| Chapters 10 to 24 | Short sayings, mostly two lines each | 457 | 50% |
| Chapters 25 to 29 | Sayings copied by Hezekiah's men | 138 | 15% |
| Chapters 30 and 31 | The words of Agur and of King Lemuel | 64 | 7% |
Every verse has the same chance of being drawn, so a part with more verses comes up more often.
